As part of the competition for the Illarsaz footbridge, the engineering office INGPHI chose to question the relevance of creating and providing access to a permanent island. Rather than imposing an artificial island on the Rhône, it proposed a suspended footbridge spanning the river without intermediate supports, anchored between the two abutments (3rd rank, 2nd mention).

The new footbridge thus stretches from one bank to the other, crossing over the sanctuary island. Like a suspended line, it connects the riverbanks without imposing itself on the island, symbolizing a subtle dialogue and a controlled tension between nature and human-made structure.

The footbridge is no longer a simple crossing: it becomes a statement. A testament to the human ability to create without destroying, to link without owning. It embodies another manner of building: humble, attentive, almost discreet. A belvedere suspended above a space that vibrates with the rhythms of nature, where the island breathes, transforms, and adapts to the movements of the living environment.
