INGPHI took part in the Lausanne Jardins 2019 competition. Lausanne Jardin is an urban landscaping competition taking place within different sites in the city of Lausanne. Over one summer, the winners of the competition will create gardens on those sites. INGPHI chose to participate for the Grand Pont site, located in the center of Lausanne, as INGPHI is incidentally engineer for the widening of this bridge.

For the Lausanne Jardins 2019 competition, INGPHI’S proposition called “Pleine terre, plein air”, consists in constructing a tree accessible for the North sidewalk of the bridge. This tree is natural, as vegetation colonizes its trunk, but it is also artificial by offering an urban canopy – designed as a platform – accessible from the bridge. This garden can be enjoyed from the canopy which creates a surreal space suspended in the middle of the city. It can also be discovered from below the bridge, on the Centrale street, where this constructed tree is rooted.
