The modular (multi-element) expansion joint was placed at the Fribourg abutment during a weekend overnight operation. To insure good durability of this element and avoid all transversal welding on site, the 17-m long joint was placed in once piece. The following works were carried out:

• Bushhammering and cleaning of the joint blockout
• Placement of the joint and adaptation of the reinforcement in the blockout
• Setting and verification of the levels with the surveyor
• Placement of final reinforcement bars and concreting of the joint
• Construction of temporary pavement chamfer
