The Underpinnng Works start in Leysin

The town of Leysin plans a lowering of the longitudinal profile of the Village road which leads to Veyges after passing underneath the Village Bridge. This structure has masonry abutments on which rests a reinforced concrete deck. It carries the rack railway for the Aigle-Leysin line. The height under the structure must be increased to ensure the clearance for the road and insure the passage of the emergency vehicles.

The 60-cm lowering of the road requires lowering the level of the bridge abutments and retaining walls foundations. The underpinning will be done by small working steps. To prevent later settlements and distortion of the track, the foundations are loaded using flat jacks which are then grouted and sealed.
