Mention for the Maison de l’île aux oiseaux
The Jury of the « Prix Lignum 2021” awards a distinction – western region- to the “Maison de l’île aux oiseaux” for its exemplary use of wood.
This pavilion, built for the ornithological circle, is located in Préverenges, near the bird island – the socalled “île aux oiseaux”. Designed in collaboration with localarchitecture, the structure of the pavilion is inspired by the nest is intended to be very slender. Its light framework made of nailed planks serves as a support for the pleated CLT-roof.
The structure shows a contrast between the use of contemporary techniques for the cross-laminated-timber roof and older methods for the framework made of rough sawn boards.
