On Friday May 25th, a school group visited the job site of the Paudèze bridges. This visit was organized in collaboration with the educational program “Le Béton” of SIA Vaud (Swiss Engineers and Architects, in Canton Vaud). Fourth grade students from Pully, aged 8th year old, were welcomed in the site conference room for a brief explanation of the project as well as a small workshop to explain some simple static concepts. The students were then allowed to cross the bridge inside the box girder where a second workshop allowed a better understanding of the additional external prestressing that was placed on the bridge. The visit ended around the retaining foundation shafts where the students could understand the unloading effect on the piers with a mockup.
