Concrete Benches on Platform 10

“Circulateurs” is the winning project of the urban furniture competition for Platform 10. Designed by the Basler office INCH, these benches are circular concrete blocks with a diameter varying from 2.75 m to 6 m.

The 12 benches were created by digging their negative shape in the ground of Platform 10. These wholes were then filled with concrete and extracted using a crane truck. The 6-m wide elements have a weight of 25 tons and a static verification was carried out for the lifting load case.

The irregular geometry of the underside of the benches gives them varying slopes when in place, showing the pattern of the ground on which they were concreted. This confers to these benches a fun and artistic image while also proposing a nice resting spot in this wide public space.
