The footbridge located along the rue du Commerce in Leysin allows pedestrians to reach the departure of the Berneuse cable car from the parking lot by separating them from road traffic. The footbridge, built in 1990, consists of a wooden deck covered with a concrete slab and is supported on one part by wooden columns and on another part by guy wires suspended from two wooden masts.

The INGPHI office was commissioned by the municipality of Leysin to carry out an inspection of the structure from which a reinforcement project was derived. The wooden structure, highly exposed to the weather, had suffered significant damage to the wood and steel assemblies over the years.

The challenge was to achieve an efficient and quick reinforcement. It was imperative to be able to reopen the structure for the ski season. First, the reinforced concrete foundations were reinforced. Then, specific interventions to reinforce the wooden windchests at the right of the damaged assemblies allowed to secure and rigidify the structure. The stays and bracings were tightened.

A temporary staircase was built using scaffolding modules. The work will continue in the spring with the replacement of the railings and the construction of a new permanent staircase.
