The “Petit-Pont”
In anticipation of the retrofit of the Grand-Pont in Lausanne that will begin in January 2022, a temporary pedestrian walkway has been built between the hills of Saint-François and Saint-Laurent. It will allow pedestrian flows between Place Saint-François and Bel-Air when the Grand-Pont will be closed to all traffic.
The structure of the main footbridge consists of modular steel truss towers and beams. The beams were pre-assembled in the construction site and then put in place with a self-propelled crane during a night operation.
Pedestrians can now use the footbridge, also called by the media the “little Golden Gate Bridge”, and enjoy a unique view of the historic Grand-Pont. The wooden decking and railings ensure a pleasant walk over the central square.
